Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the badge attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
