The airline Operations Halted Throughout America Because of IT Outage

The carrier halted operations due to technical issue

Alaska Airlines grounded flights at all US airports on Thursday due to a system failure.

The airline said in a statement that it was "experiencing an system disruption affecting flight schedules" and issued "an operational pause."

The airline did not say the duration the outage would continue or the number of flights were affected. It said it was "working to resume our services" following the outage.

The operational halt also affected the regional carrier, which is a subsidiary of the parent company, according to an advisory by the Federal Aviation Administration.

Alaska Airlines, part of The Alaska Air Group based in Seattle, Washington, mainly serves on the West Coast of the US. It connects numerous locations worldwide, including 37 states and dozens of nations, according to its website.

Previously, the airline joined forces with Hawaiian Airlines, which was unaffected by the day's ground stop.

It is the latest IT outage impacting the carrier in recent months. Earlier this year, an outage halted flights for about several hours.

Alaska Airlines did not immediately respond on the day to requests for comment.

US air travel has been complicated in recent weeks due to federal budget issues that started earlier this month. Shortage of flight controllers showing up for work has caused delays at multiple locations.
